During these confusing days where everyone seems to be fighting the inevitable and going to extremes, and with the constant query regarding how many carbs are in this, that, and the other, it is important to stop for a minute and really concentrate on the facts. There are such things as good carbs, and they are absolutely essential to the health of your body and the function of your internal organs. How many carbs, therefore, is not as important a question as is where they come from. We tend to deprive ourselves of everything when we’re trying to lose weight, because sometimes it’s easier not to question or to learn but just do. Protein poisoning can often occur in those who attempt cutting how many carbs they consume to zero, and this is definitely not the way to go. We need to be concentrating on the reality of our bodily functions, and realize that throwing even one of them for a loop will cause an entire breakdown of your health.

Good carbs come in the form of natural food products, or those which have undergone the least amount of processing and additive treatments. Fresh, green and leafy vegetables are a great source of good carbs, as are legumes, nuts, fresh berries, and beans. Any of these choices will offer a great source of protein and carbs, giving a balance to your digestive processes which cannot be matched by any manufactured supplement. Some include sugar free, low or non fat yogurt to their good carbs list, and this can offer a great shot of antioxidants and beneficial bacteria to your overall diet as well.

When calculating how many carbs are in your daily diet, or even just in your evening snack, you will want to remember that bad carbs are the ones which truly count against you. Lethargy and bowel problems are just a couple of the risks involved with using bad carbs. How many carbs in your thick slice of bread is not nearly as important as the fact that the carbs are compound, and that they completely clog up your natural digestion process. This is why processed sugars, desserts, pastas, and breads make us feel so sleepy after dinner.
