Good Carbohydrates

Good Carbohydrates Are All Around You

Good carbohydrates should not be ignored, and in fact should be celebrated on a daily basis. As the world recovers from its decade long addiction to the irresponsible low-carb dieting fads, we are coming to grips with the fact that we need good carbohydrates. They are as important as the air we breathe, and there are many reasons why the low-carb attempts were ultimately unsuccessful. Avoiding good carbohydrates, first of all, means depriving ourselves of most of the natural foods that give us the other vital nutrients that our bodies require. All of our fresh green and leafy vegetables are excellent sources of good carbs, as well as vitamin C, fiber, iron, and countless other essential minerals and elements.

In order to choose which carbohydrates that you need to reincorporate into your diet, you will need to recognize those which cause adverse effects within your body. Manufactured and processed food products are highly guilty of adding compound and heavy carbohydrates to our calorie count, and these types of unnatural additives can wreak havoc on our digestive and metabolic functions. Such sinful delights as potato chips, rich desserts, processed white sugar, non dairy creamers, any baked good which is born of bleached white flour, many dense breads, and white bleached pastas are all bad examples of carbohydrate consumption. This is not to insinuate that these should be excluded completely from your roster, as who can live without chocolate cake, French loaf bread, and spaghetti? But moderation is key with these heavy, empty foods.

Good carbohydrates will support the healthy function of your digestive tract, not to mention aid in the absorption of essential nutrients and minerals. Iron, for instance, can be a very harsh and difficult mineral for the body to metabolize, which is a hard pill to swallow when we need it so desperately. Iron, when accompanied by the highly amiable good carbohydrates in the spinach or steak that you consume will absorb more naturally, without stomach upset or suffering with anemia.

You mustn’t be afraid of good carbohydrates when you trying to lose weight, either. These healthful and wonderful foods are of the utmost importance to your overall weight maintenance and reduction goals, and deleting them from your daily plans could be to your detriment. Try adding some tasty legumes, beans, or nuts to your beautiful spinach leaf salad for a nice kick of low fat, high nutrition meal filled with good carbohydrates. All of your fresh fruits, especially bananas, blueberries, and apples, contain perfect amounts of good carbohydrates. These are foods that should not be avoided under any circumstances, as they are perfectly formulated by nature to sustain the needs of our bodies.
