Functions Of Carbohydrates

All About The Important Functions Of Carbohydrates

The functions of carbohydrates within our bodies cannot be duplicated, and are immensely important to the overall health of our bodies. Good carbohydrates are the ones that we should concentrate on the most, and these are the simple carbs found in natural, unprocessed foods. The functions of carbohydrates of this sort are a great source of fat free energy for those who partake, but they also aid in the absorption and release of essential elements and fats. This job cannot be done by any other food source, and the deprivation of simple carbs in any diet can be a risky endeavor. They occur naturally in nearly every type of natural food on the planet with the exception of water, and we all need plenty of that, now don’t we?

The functions of carbohydrates in the bad category are really quite different. These carbs are known as compound or complex, and they occur in processed and manufactured food products. These carbs do not occur naturally, and as such are much more difficult for the body to digest and break down. This gives rise to our feeling of lethargy and sleepiness after eating large white pasta and white bread meals. Our bodies are working so hard to determine where these stores should go that we feel extremely tired. Simple carbs are broken down and utilized almost immediately, leaving us no fat or sugar deposits to worry about. Athletes and professional sports men and women are much more likely to pack away the compound carbs, as these stores of energy will be called upon once action has commenced.

The functions of carbohydrates in both categories are quite relevant, but the hype and controversy revolving around bad, or complex, carbs has caused us to panic whenever the word carbohydrate is spoken. The premise is that if your body is running off of carbohydrate energy, it will not cut into the fat reserves that dieters are trying to get rid of. This is true, as simple carbs are the most readily usable energy source for the human body. Complex carbs do store within the body as sugar, but will burn first as well, when energy is needed.

You will need to remember that simple carbs should be used more frequently than complex carbs are. It can take much longer for your body to burn those bad carbs, and there tend to be a much greater amount of them than there are simple ones. The thing about the functions of carbohydrates of the simple type is that they help with the release of fat deposits, whereas compound carbs only add to the problem. Have a good time weeding through your many possibilities, and stay safe and healthy.
