Tick Bite Symptoms

Some Important Information On Tick Bite Symptoms

Tick bite symptoms vary greatly depending on the type of tick who employed the bite, and can be difficult to diagnose for those who don’t realize that they have been bitten at all. The most dangerous ticks, including the deer tick, Rocky Mountain Wood Tick, and the Western Black-Legged tick, are actually quite small and their bites rarely detectable at the onset. This is a terrible coincidence, as these are the tick bites symptoms which will cause you the most pain and grief in the long run. Initial tick bite symptoms from a more harmless tick, such as the common brown dog tick, will leave a red ring with a clear center. Removing the entire tick upon detection is critical, and you can do this by using one steady motion in the direction opposite of its entry angle. Try not to twist, turn, jerk, squeeze, pinch, or pluck at the tick, as this could release extra pathogens into your blood stream.

If the head of a tick should be lost beneath your skin, you will want to seek medical attention. There are no real tick bite symptoms associated with this, but leaving the head for too long could cause a secondary infection, or increase your chances of contracting any bacterial or viral diseases the tick may have been carrying. For cases of deer ticks and other tiny, thereby considered to be armed and extremely dangerous, arachnid parasites, you will want to not only remove the entire tick from your person, but seal it in an airtight container and have it inspected. Identification and research are key in prime Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotty Fever regions, and you may be able to help with the mystery.

Your area DNR or wildlife conservation agency will be able to help you not only recognize tick bite symptoms, but to understand what they mean. The most severe diseases passed on by ticks do not show up for sometimes more than 10 days from the times of the initial bite. If you experience a rash on the palms of your hands or balls of your feet, an acute fever with full body chills, extreme sensitivity to light, muscle and joint pain, or nausea and vomiting, you will want to seek medical attention immediately. Ignoring these types of tick bite symptoms could be deadly, especially in the case of Rocky Mountain Spotty Fever, which can cause shock and kidney failure. Always better safe than sorry, even if you don’t remember being bitten by a tick.

The most important thing that you can do is to protect yourself, your family, and your domesticated animals from the probable dangers and discomforts of tick infestation. Remember to stay away from overgrown areas during the spring and early summer, and to always wear tightly fitting, all encompassing clothing should you plan to venture out too far.
