Get Rid Of Termites

Tips On How To Get Rid Of Termites

Oh, but they’re so cute and cuddly, aren’t they? Perhaps to the insect lovers around the globe who seek the good in all creatures, the termite has its beauty and proper place in the grand scheme of things. One would suppose. But to the home or business owner who is faced with the wretched possibility of having to rebuild their exterior walls, the only question is how to get rid of termites. There are quite a few ways to get rid of termites, but all of them may not be for you. You may need a professional opinion as to how serious your issues are with these pesky little wood eaters, and you should not hesitate to find out. An advanced infestation could spell disaster for your home and its foundation walls, whereas a minor one may be squelched before the need arises for military stealth.

To get rid of termites who are subterranean, the proper assessments must be made by your exterminator. These private and devious little creatures build mud tunnels to and from the food sources that they frequent. If you find a mangled, twisted collection of dirt tubes climbing up your exterior or interior walls, then you know that they have probably been dining here for a while. The issue with these termites is that they do not, usually, live within your walls, but are hacking away at them and then carrying the loot back to their underground  lair some two or three hundred feet beneath the surface of the grass. This leaves us with two choices:

1.) We call an excavator, not an exterminator, or...
2.) We bait them with slow poison and hope that they kill themselves.

I, for one, am probably going to choose the latter option, as I haven’t got the thousands of dollars that I would need to pay someone to tear my yard to shreds, nor the thousands of dollars that I would need to put it back together again. This, of course, is a personal choice, but most experts would encourage you to bait those little buggers before they took over your home.

When learning how to get rid of termites who are of the wood boring species, and of whom there are many strains, you will want to gauge the rate of infestation. Again, you will more than likely appreciate the expertise of one trained in this area. There are powder pesticides which can be applied to certain concentrated areas of infestation through controlled drill holes in the wall. There are aerosol pesticides that you can purchase for the execution of just a few stray termites that may be crawling, or flying, around. There are also pesticide repellents which are for dispersal around the perimeter of your home. The final, most drastic yet effective way to get rid of termites is fumigation.
