Sanitation is the most important thing to establish in order to kill flies. You will need to locate and eliminate the breeding grounds, too. It's not nearly enough to only kill the flies you can see. There are many more flies in various stages of life that will more than make up for the adults you kill, if that's all you do.
Remove any food or materials that the flies use to lay their eggs on. They can be isolated from the flies that lay eggs, or they can be destroyed.
One spray that is very helpful in killing flies is a pyrethrin spray. It usually provides a fairly quick kill, quickly reducing the adult population.
Trash cans, dumpsters and garbage cans should have lids that fit and the lids should always be kept on the cans. They should also be regularly cleaned.
Get rid of extra moisture by filling holes that collect rain water, and adding drainage to help disperse the extra moisture. Doors and windows should have tight screens with no gaps or tears in them.
Some other effective insecticides include wettable powders, which you can mix with water to spray surfaces with, where flies might land. Surfaces should be sprayed once a month or more. Foggers are also helpful in keeping pests away from any area you fog.
Sometimes low-tech works well to kill flies, too. Fly paper is disgusting to look at. But if you hang it in a high insect traffic area, out of sight of people, it can do its job without the gross factor. There are also window fly traps, which allow you to stick a trap on a window, without using an insecticide. Advantage fly traps will attract and kill flies outside. They have a special lure that you prepare for them, and they can trap blow flies, house flies and other types of flies.
Electronic traps bring your plans to kill flies into the age of higher technology. They are very functional and efficient. You can buy them in commercial models with a higher capacity, and home or farm models.
You can also use different types of bait to kill flies. There are various kinds of bait; each one is specific to the type of flies that you want to kill. Aerosols containing pyrethrin or other ingredients are very useful for premises affected by flies.
There are almost as many ways to kill flies as there are species of flies. Find the one that's best for your problem bug, and enjoy the summer season bug-free.
