Kill Roaches

How To Kill Roaches Safely

The issue that we face when trying to kill roaches is that they are so very hardy and adaptable. These creatures have survived millions of years of ice ages and meteor strikes, earthquakes and gaseous explosions. Who are we to think that we can destroy them with our nimble minds and fancy chemicals? We are the ones who stand to contract terrible illnesses from the roaches that crawl across our plates and counters under cover of darkness. We have a great need to kill roaches, and to prevent them from re-infesting our homes once we have taken care of business.

In short, we can’t merely kill roaches; we must be prepared to repel them for the long term. The American cockroach is drawn to dense, decaying organic materials, and tends to sneak indoors where moisture and rotting leaves are in heavy concentration, such as in basements and through low windows. Once inside however, the roach takes on a mean sweet tooth, and decides that sticking around may not be such a bad idea. To avoid this type of invasion, you should keep the fallen organic debris away from your home, including garden clippings, leaves, hay, straw, and grass clippings. There are sprays and pellet pesticides which can be applied to both the outdoor window casings and the ground level perimeter of your home.

Before you attempt to kill roaches who have already settled into your home, you will want to seal off all possible entrance and escape routes. You can do this by caulking all cracks, crevasses, and holes beneath bathroom and kitchen sinks, basement walls, and around any screened in areas such as sun porches. This will ensure that while you are working to kill roaches within your home, they cannot leave, and no new pests can enter. For infestation issues in your attic, you will want to first clip back any overhanging foliage or tree limbs, as the roaches are most likely using these elevations to sneak in through siding cracks and vents. Also, be sure to keep your gutters clean and leaf free, as this type of organic slop is pure heaven to American roaches.

Once you have caulked, sealed, trimmed, and secured the outer perimeter of your home or building, you are ready to kill roaches trapped inside. Attic and basement infestations are quite easy to deal with, as fast acting pesticide pellets can be left out without risk to pets and children. For the main living area, you will want to use chemical spray around the pipes and framework beneath your bathroom and kitchen sinks. Baseboards and corners should also be treated, and pellets can be strategically placed in cupboards and drawers where kids and pets cannot get to them. Remember to keep everything sanitary, and you will be well on your way.
