Cockroach Control

The Basics Of Cockroach Control
Cockroach control can be a multistage process, and each step is just as important as the next. For the common American cockroach, control begins in the form of an immaculate yard and garden area. These roaches are drawn to organic materials, most generally that which is undergoing decay. Rotting wood shavings, leaves, stray, hay, grass clippings, and dense tree limbs are favorite breeding and hatching grounds for this roach, and they are bound to make their way indoors when these conditions are butted right up to your foundation. Keeping all biodegradable organic materials far away from your living quarters is a great start, and there are both spray and pellet chemicals which can be used around the perimeter for added protection.
Another important aspect of cockroach control is taking great care of your gutters and roof. If you have tree or foliage limbs dangling over or close to your roof, you will want to trim them back considerably. Your downspouts, gutters, vents, and chimneys should be regularly ridded of leaves and debris, as this will discourage the roaches from venturing toward these areas. It is important to remember that these roaches also have a very strong sweet tooth, and once they have been given a taste of the easy life, it is difficult to convince them to go back to the wild.
For cockroach control indoors, you will want to begin by sealing off all entrance and escape routes to your home. Do this by using a strong, clear caulk around all cracks and crevasses beneath your bathroom and kitchen sinks, utility pipes, basement walls, and other holes. There are very powerful pesticides available in the form of pellets, and these can be used safely in attics and basements as long as children and pets do not frequent these areas of the home. They can also be placed within cupboards and drawers where they cannot be tampered with. Also, you can use a pesticide pray beneath your sinks, around your baseboards, within window casings, and in corners. This will cover some of the most infestation areas and sources, and give you a good head start on cockroach control.
Contrary to popular belief, cockroaches are not attracted only to dirt and filth. They really don’t care how dirty or clean your house is, as long as there is a steady food source somewhere within. You can help to discourage this type of infestation by sealing all of your dry food products in air tight glass or plastic bins, and by keeping your floors and counters clean and sanitary at all times. The best of luck to you and your cockroach control bid, and keep your chin up.
