How To Deal With Stress

Learning how to deal with stress is one of the best ways to live happily and prevent sickness and disease. Stress is basically any change we experience and the way our bodies react to it. High stress levels can have very negative effects on our health, so it is vital to learn how to deal with stress.

Everyone has stress. In fact, some stress is beneficial because it prods us to take action and get moving in life. Too much stress, unnecessary stress or chronic stress, however, are dangerous and can cause serious illness, even death. Too much stress also leads to unhappiness and a generally unsatisfying life. The answer is to learn how to deal with stress.

There are 3 very basic things anyone can do to deal with stress:
1. Exercise. Any form of exercise is a stress reliever because it releases chemicals that cleanse your body of toxins and blockages caused by stressful daily events. Working out also helps clear the mind and solve problems. Even something as simple as a daily walk for 20 or 30 minutes can help lower the stress you are experiencing, because it forces you to stop everything else and focus on you, your body and how you feel.

2. Proper Diet. When we eat the right foods, we equip our bodies with the nutritional elements it needs to combat the stress that is continually fired at us every day. Our bodies were created to handle stress on their own, but they cannot do it well if they are fueled up with mainly fats and sugars. Vitamins and minerals are vital to the proper functioning of every part of our bodies, and we are the only ones who can make sure we get what we need.

3. Sleep. One of the most stressful things anyone can go through is not being able to sleep. Add lack of sleep to the other stressors we deal with every day, and you have a potentially explosive situation on your hands. Like good nutrition, sleep is necessary for our bodies to perform properly. When we don’t get enough sleep, everything inside of us suffers for it. Of course, high stress often interferes with sleep, so there are some things you can do to aid a good night’s sleep:

> Yoga. Just a few minutes of calm breathing and stretching before bed works wonders when it comes time to close your eyes.

> Positive thinking. Never go to bed fussing and worrying about the problems of the day. Instead, focus your mind on pleasant thoughts and outcomes – force yourself if you have to, it will eventually become a habit and you will see your stress decrease.

> Journal writing. If you have a difficult time controlling your thoughts, write down the things that are stressing you out. Unload all of the junk that is spinning around your mind before you hit the pillow, and sleep will come much easier to you.
