Insomnia symptoms can vary from person to person. Basically, though, anyone that is experiencing insomnia is dealing with some type of sleeping problem. This can be trouble falling asleep or trouble staying asleep, but however it occurs, it is hard to live with.

The most common insomnia symptoms are the following:
> Having a hard time falling asleep, frequently tossing and turning or lying in bed for an hour or longer before sleep finally comes.
> Waking up during the night and being unable to or having trouble going back to sleep.
> Awaking too early in the morning and still feeling tired.
> Always feeling tired, even right after waking up.
> Feeling irritable, grumpy or dysfunctional because of lack of sleep.

Since sleep is one of our most important daily activities, it can be a serious problem when we don’t get enough of it. There is nothing more frustrating than being totally exhausted yet unable to fall asleep. This is a common problem for insomnia sufferers, who can sometimes lay in bed for hours wanting to sleep so badly but just not being able to fall asleep.

Insomnia symptoms include more than just having trouble sleeping. Sleep problems also relate to the quality of sleep a person gets each night. A person who is getting enough sleep will feel rested when they wake up in the morning. A person suffering from insomnia will feel tired no matter how many hours they have slept because they are not getting a restful sleep.

The sleeping environment can have a lot to do with getting a good rest each night and can be a major cause of insomnia. Optimum sleeping conditions require it to be quiet and dark. Some people like to have the TV or some other form of white noise to help them fall asleep. This should be kept very low and not continued all night long because it can cause wake ups during the night. The body also rests more completely in the dark, so all lights should be out and curtains or blinds should cover the windows (unless you need to wake up with the dawn).

Comfort is also a factor when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. A good mattress is a sound investment and will reap benefits for years to come. Sleeping clothes should be comfortable and allow the body to move freely during sleep. Room temperature is another major factor when it comes to sleeping comfortably. Trying to sleep when it is too hot or too cold in the room will undoubtedly lead to a fitful night of tossing and turning and trying to find a comfortable place.

Sleep is vital to good health, and it is not difficult to make sure your sleep environment is helping you to get all of the rest you need every night.
