Prevent Hangover

The Best Ways to Prevent Hangover

It's much better to prevent hangover than to deal with it the next morning. Here are some suggestions to help you in this area.

The first step to prevent hangover is painfully obvious: don't drink. If you avoid alcohol completely, you won't have to worry about hangovers. Here are some ideas to lessen or prevent hangover if you still plan to drink in excess.

Prevent hangover by eating a good diner before you go out drinking. The food in your stomach will help to absorb some of the alcohol you'll be drinking.

Drink clear types of alcohol rather than the darker kinds. For example, choose light rum, white wine and vodka over brandy, whiskey and red wine. Light colored beers are better than dark beers, too, since light beers have more water in them. It's best to avoid malt beverages or sugary drinks.

Stay away from cheap alcohol if you want to prevent hangover. If you can afford the price difference, go with the “top shelf” drinks. Avoid “well” drinks. These are generally a “house” brand that the bar buys more cheaply.

Be sure that you keep on eating, even as you drink. The carbs and fats will help absorb the alcohol, and eating something with sugar in it will replace the stores of sugar that the alcohol takes away from your body. This will help to prevent hangover, to a certain extent.

Drink a cup of water after every alcoholic drink. This will help to keep your body hydrated, and will lessen the head and body aches you will experience the next morning.

Be aware of your limits and drink accordingly. Don't buy rounds with your friends, or you may drink even more than you intend to. Buy your own drinks, and buy them at your own pace. Or set a limit money-wise and stick to it.

When you get home, drink another couple glasses of water. Have a banana or something else bland to eat, before you go to bed. Also take a vitamin tablet before you hit the bed, to help replace all the minerals and vitamins you lost while you were drinking. You can also take a Thiamine pill. This is Vitamin B1. It can help lessen the negative effects of drinking.

If you experience vertigo when you go to bed, try to stay awake until it fades. Otherwise, it may increase the chance that you will be sick. You can hang one leg off the bed – this sometimes helps vertigo.

If you tried your best, but couldn't prevent hangover, you can eat something and drink a few large cups of water, to try to lessen the symptoms.

Hopefully these tips will help you, the next time you head out for a night on the town. The healthiest thing is to avoid drinking, but if you can't, these ways to prevent hangover may help you.
