Antibiotics have no effect on bronchitis that is caused by a viral infection, but there are home remedies for bronchitis that can at least bring comfort as they ease symptoms.  A doctor will need to confirm if your illness is viral or bacterial before you begin any remedies, however, to ensure you are getting the most effective treatment.

Some home remedies for bronchitis involve using certain spices and common food items in the home.  Ginger, cloves, turmeric and cayenne pepper are all considered to have properties that help relieve the symptoms of bronchitis; either on their own, mixed in a tea or eaten with food.  In addition, eating onions or taking a teaspoon of onion juice is said to act as an expectorant.  Spinach added to honey and ammonium chloride, or dried and powdered chicory when mixed with honey are both helpful remedies for bronchitis as they act as expectorants.
