Feng Shui Bed

What Is A Feng Shui Bed And Why Is It Important?

Having a good feng shui bed isn't terribly complicated. It's simply a matter of doing a few things right, and not doing the wrong things, with respect to your bed. Feng shui is an art form designed to promote harmony and health in your lifestyle. Feng shui has much to do with the proper channeling of Qi (chi), or energy, both in your body and in your surroundings.

In a proper feng chi environment, objects belong in special, sometimes specific locations, and may have specific orientations. The way the rooms are laid out in your home and the way the furnishings are arranged, including the feng shui bed, determines how the energy in your home is focused and channeled, which can influence not only how you feel, but how you act on a day to day basis. Even color is important. Feng shui, being an ancient art, recognizes 5 elements making up our environment. Each of these elements has several, usually two or more, associated colors. How these colors are arranged, and where they are used, is very important in a proper feng shui environment. Each of the rooms in your home has its reason for being there, a place to eat, a place to sleep, a room to relax in, or to eat in, a special room perhaps for entertaining guests. Each of these rooms should be furnished in a manner that will reinforce the energy and feelings you are trying to experience.

If asked which room in your house is the most important, some will say the kitchen, others the bedroom. In the world of feng shui the bedroom is considered to be the most important room. This makes sense, as it is the room where we experience rest, renewal, healing, love, and the most intimate of relationships. The most important piece of furniture in the bedroom is of course the bed. A feng shui bed is simply a bed which, in its design and placement, allows energy to circulate around your body, providing the renewal it needs as you sleep.

In the practice of feng shui, a proper bed will have a headboard. Even while sleeping, your subconscious is aware of the protecting qualities of the headboard, which should be of solid wood or, if upholstered, have a solid look. It is also recommended that the bed be off the floor, and not have drawers or compartments beneath the mattress. The location and orientation of your feng shui bed is also important, but understandably the floor plan of your bedroom can place limitations on just what you can do. So you do the best you can.

Just as a headboard provides a sense of security and protection, the feng shui bed should be placed so there is a solid wall behind it, again offering a sense of security. A nightstand provides an element of added support, and nightstands on either side of the bed provide balanced support. The wall behind the bed should be one that does not have electrical appliance outlets on the other side, and the bedroom itself should be devoid of any appliances. Feng shui practice dictates that there be no sharp corners from either walls or furniture pointing at you when you sleep.

As you study feng shui in greater depth, you’ll find that there are all sorts of directions as to what to do or what not to do. Some do not always seem to make sense, but when you study them in depth you'll find that for the most part they do. What you'll come to realize is feng shui practice does make sense, but like much else in life, you can't always follow rules or guidelines to the letter. You do what seems to make the best sense. If your feng shui bed doesn't score a perfect 10 there's no cause for alarm. Follow the guidelines as best you can, and you'll probably notice a difference, no matter how subtle, in your life.
