Corgi Dogs

Corgi Dogs: The Friendly Little Warrior

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is one of the most distinguishable and loveable breeds in the world today, and those who have the honor of sharing their homes and lives with them will swear by the superiority of their corgi dogs. The smallest dog in the American Kennel Clubs official herding group, and has been an absolute favorite of royalty in the United Kingdom for nearly a century. What is it that is so special and endearing about these bright eyed, eager, yet gently little corgi dogs? Well, perhaps we can cover the most impressive attributes of this breed below, so let’s get started.

Corgi dogs are very glad to meet you, and this is one of the most endearing traits about them. They should never show a viciousness or aggression toward hapless or non threatening people, so they pose no danger to the general public or to visitors in your home. This is not to say that they can not be protective should they sense danger or ill will afoot, but they are generally considered as predictable and kindly little guys. There should not be shyness in the breed either, though improper socialization or over breeding conditions may bring this trait to the table every now and then. For the most part, corgi dogs have a personality that is cherished and treasured.

Corgi dogs were bred as cattle and livestock dogs in England during the 16th century, it is thought, and were designed to be agile and to escape danger easily. The short legs should not fool you, for these stubby little dogs can run faster than most other breeds. Rather than having to crawl under or jump over pasture fences, they can simply hop or pass right through the bottom at full steam ahead. There is a method to the length of their legs also, thought to be responsible for lowering the head out of harms way. Angry livestock can take the life of a larger or taller working dog, but the stature of corgi dogs seems to protect them under pressure of employment.

The name corgi dogs can refer to either of two breeds of dog, the Welsh Pembroke Corgi or the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. In one of the foremost literary publications noting the scientific findings of intelligence in dogs, the corgi rated number 12 overall in intellectual stamina, giving us the impression that he is not only cute, sweet, fast, agile, and loyal, but quite a formidable thinker as well. Corgi dogs can do very well in smaller environments, but they are the type who need to be offered freedom and room to run and roam at least once each day.
