Chihuahua Adoption

Is Chihuahua Adoption Right For You?

There are a great many reasons for Chihuahua adoption, the most prominent of them being over breeding due to popularity. There are a great many disreputable and irresponsible breeders who do unthinkable things to innocent dogs in the name of monetary gain, and there are large organizations who specialize in the finding and rescuing of these poor little dogs. There are also cases where a previous owner didn’t realize what they were getting in to with the breed, and soon learned that they couldn’t keep up with the emotional and physical needs of the pet. Chihuahua adoption agencies do not seek legal recourse when dogs are surrendered to them under these circumstances.

If you are thinking about Chihuahua adoption as an option for your home or family, you should be prepared to undergo a very diligent and in depth investigation process before bringing your little guy home. Most agencies insist on a prescreening process, involving a personal reference and veterinary reference check upon application. You will then be expected to interview and most likely will have to open your home to an inspection and approval process. There are, of course, Chihuahua adoption agencies who will not be quite as rigorous, but they may not be as careful about the health and well being of your new pet either. In short, you should not feel intimidated by this process, but rather relieved by the thorough and honest assessment that is offered.

Before deciding on Chihuahua adoption, you may want to study up on the breed quite heavily, preparing yourself for the possible issues which might arise during your time together. Even as new puppies who have never been abused or neglected by a human, Chihuahuas can be extremely jittery, skittish, and easily intimidated. If you add frequent home changes and emotional or physical discord to the mix, as is often the case with Chihuahua adoption, you will need to be prepared with patience, plenty of time, and lots of protection and affection.

Most dogs offered by Chihuahua adoption agencies are fixed, and this policy takes enormous strides toward the population control of the species. If you are looking for an unaltered Chihuahua you will have a hard time finding one through an adoption agency, as most of these caring facilities will not allow a fertile dog to pass through their grasp, as this goes against the work that they are trying to do. Chihuahua adoption is meant to offer a helping hand to the overabundance of these wonderful little dogs, and you will be expected to uphold this philosophy, should you be blessed enough to gain one. Good luck with your search for a wonderful little Chihuahua of your own.
