Cockatiel Food

What Is The Best Cockatiel Food For My Pet?

There are a great many healthy brands of cockatiel food on the market today, but these tend to be seed and biscuit types of feed and will not offer all of the nutrition that your little guy needs. As scavengers in the wild, cockatiels will hunt for and ingest countless forms of fruits and vegetation, along with seeds and insects. Though it is not common for captive cockatiel food to include insects and bugs, we can add these protein rich sources to our bird’s diets in other ways. There are not very many foods that the cockatiel can not or will not eat, and we will discuss them in a brief moment. It will become much more about the offering of a great many foods on a daily basis, and it can be great fun to discover which ones are your birds favorites.

Cockatiel food can consist of pretty much anything aside from preserved, dried fruits and vegetables or meats, as many of these contain potentially deadly chemicals that you may not know about. If you are uncertain, don’t offer it, as he will not miss what he has never had. Also, coffee beans, or ant product with even a trace amount of coffee bean in them, can be fatal to your fine, feathered friend. No chocolate should ever be given to any of your birds, though your cockatiel may enjoy a little carob candy now and then. This can be found in many snack mixes, and is very similar to chocolate in its taste and color. Cockatiel food is pretty open apart from these three elements, so get ready to have some fun.

All greens are considered to be very nutritious and enjoyable as cockatiel food, though will want to be sure that you remove them once they begin to wilt. Leaving decomposing foods in his cage will promote sickness and parasitic dangers, not to mention mold spores and bacteria promotion which could harm your pet. Leave his fresh foods in the cage with him for no longer than three hours, and then replace them with new cuttings if he has not yet snacked. You can use any types of nuts, beans, legumes, or vegetables as cockatiel food, not to mention a little taste of every kind of meat. Yes, that’s right, your cockatiel will benefit from the nutrients in chicken, beef, pork, and fish, and he will love the flavor and texture as well.

If you plan to give some of your cooked meal as cockatiel food, you will want to watch closely that you don’t offer him too much added cholesterol or fat. Give him a little sliver of chicken breast from the middle, by the bone, to ensure that he isn’t ingesting unnecessary elements that he would not be offered in the wild. Feeding time can be a great bonding experience, so be sure that he knows where his favorite morsels are coming from. He’ll love you for it!
