Canary Breeders

Canary Breeders - The Best Place To Buy Your Pet?
You can find a pet canary by looking through the classifieds, in a pet store, or by contacting one of the canary breeders in your area. Each source may have its pluses or minuses. If you buy from a private party, you may or may not get a good bird, and may or may not get the right sex. The price may well be the least expensive though, and if the canary is coming from a nice home, it is very likely a good buy. Pet stores might be a better bet, at least insofar that you could easily return the bird if something is not right.
Some canary breeders sell wholesale to dealers only, but you may find one that will sell you a bird or two, and at wholesale, or at least at something less than retail. There are quite a number of breeders out there, so you should eventually find one who would be more than delighted to sell to you.
There are a number of places you can look to find canary breeders, ranging from searching on the Internet, to the Yellow pages, or classified ads. In the newspapers, look under pets and pet supplies, in the discount papers like Penny Pitcher, Little Nickel, or whatever free paper is available in your area, look under pets, or birds. A canary breeder advertisement may appear anywhere in the paper, so keep looking. Finding a local breeder, or one within driving distance, is best. Many canary breeders don't ship, and if they do, it can be very expensive.
If you're looking for a special breed, or a purebred or registered bird, canary breeders are probably your best choice. Canaries sold in pet stores are often not purebreds, and are sometimes referred to as "Kitchen Canaries", the mutts of the canary world. There's nothing really wrong with such a bird. If you are just looking for a pet, and it sings well, it should be just fine. It won't be registered, but the bird could care less, and probably you should as well, unless your goal is to have a better canary than your neighbor does. The American Dream?
A local bird club is another place to start your search. Anyone who loves birds will more than likely be very happy to help you out, and give you whatever advice they can. If one of the members is a canary owner, he or she may be able to point you in the direction of a canary breeder, perhaps the same one they purchased their canary from.
Your search may take a while, but given the number of places canaries are available, you should find what you want eventually When you do find what you want, don't forget to ask questions about its care and feeding, particularly if you haven't had a pet canary before.
