Teacup Pigs

Interesting Facts about Teacup Pigs

Have you always wanted one of those wonderful little teacup pigs all for your own? There are several breeders in the United States that specialize in breeding these diminutive pets.

One of the most famous breeders is Royal Dandies. They breed pot-bellied pigs that you can even keep in an apartment! (You might want to check with your landlord first.) This farm has been breeding for over twenty years, offering the public these cute-as-a-button teacup pigs.

At the Royal Dandies Farm, they have combined affectionate, social, intelligent miniature pigs and have created the smallest of pigs, with good conformation, a cute sense of humor, and lots of love!

The Royal Dandy teacup pigs usually weigh between twenty and thirty pounds as adults, if you make sure they get a proper diet and plenty of exercise. They also have formulated a feed just for the smallest pigs, since regular pot-belly pig chow is not suitable for them.

The most important thing in breeding the smallest of pigs is working with genetics. They have bred smaller pigs to smaller pigs over generations, to create the Royal Dandy. It is NOT a process that includes improper feeding to make sure they stay small. They get the same amount of feed, pound for pound, as regular pot-bellied pigs do.

You have to be careful with teacup pigs, because if you have a sedentary lifestyle and do not exercise them, they will become overweight, just as so many Americans are. The Royal Dandies Farm teaches new owners what to feed, when to feed and how much to feed, to make sure they are ready to take care of their new pig.

The Dandy pigs are not “dwarf” pigs. They are smaller, but still properly-proportioned mini pigs with good conformation and temperament. The teacup pigs are more agile than traditional pot-bellied pigs. They can even jump and climb. Dandies also have longer legs for their size than the regular sized pot-bellied pigs, so they can move more easily, and thus stay more healthy.

Royal Dandies Farm only has a few litters each year, and they take steps to assure that each piglet goes to a loving and caring home. Their teacup pigs are also easier to haul in your own vehicle, which is quite handy when traveling or on those trips to the vet for check-ups. The vet techs will appreciate that your pig is smaller than most, too, when they put them on the exam table.

Royal Dandies are raised around dogs and cats, so they will not be freaked out when they come to your home, if you have other pets. Their teacup pigs also are sent home with some of their custom-made pig feed. The farm also makes vitamin supplements for your new pet pig, so you'll spend many healthy and happy years together.
