Confidence Boosters

What Are Confidence Boosters?

There are two types of confidence boosters that could do you a world of good, the first being the types that you administer toward yourself. Realizing, and proving to yourself, that you can take care of things on your own, that you can have fun alone, and that you enjoy your own company when nobody else is around are all great confidence boosters. In today’s society, we seem to be measured by the number of friends that we have, and by the social gatherings and events that we attend with “the cool kids.” Even as adults, we fall to peer pressure and social anxieties that really are unnecessary. We have to know who we are, and that activities outside of the home do not always have to be a rush of noise, laughter, and groups.

Some of the greatest confidence boosters are run of the mill things that we’ve been doing since we were young, but that we tend to do with another person on a regular basis. Go see a movie by yourself. Watch whatever you want, without having to consider anyone else’s preferences or feelings, sit where you want. Eat as much popcorn as you choose, you don’t have to share or worry about crunching too loud. You are doing this for you, so you should feel pretty good about yourself when the movie lets out and you’re strolling along afterward. This is a great exercise, and if you can accomplish this without too many cold sweats or fake phone calls, I’d say you’ve come pretty far in one day.

Don’t be afraid to eat out alone, either. There are plenty of restaurants that offer bar seating for one, and there is a good reason for that. Many married people just want some time alone, and those in couples or with a lot of friends also find it healthy to digest a meal without talking or arguing in between every bite. You can do this, it is a normal activity, and there aren’t nearly as many people staring you down in judgment as you think there are. Most of them would probably give anything to be in front of your plate!

Taking car maintenance classes or art theory are also great confidence boosters, as there are many things that you have probably always wanted to know but never took the initiative to learn. The other types of confidence boosters mentioned are those which are given to you, in the form of compliments or even with a knowing smile from a stranger. Volunteering at your local soup kitchen or youth organization could give you both kinds in one swoop, so dig in and get some independence.
