Camping with kids, though extremely fun and exciting, can be a bit of a challenge if you aren’t prepared for every little sniffle and scrape, so keeping an open list of all of the remedies and boo-boo cures that you might need is never a bad idea. If you far that your child may be bored without all of the creature comforts of home, remember that kids tend to find enjoyment wherever they are lead to. Packing a few extra gadgets and games is a great idea for the later hours of the day, when the bugs get too thick and the eye lids a bit too heavy. There are magnetic miniature board games that are perfect for limited packing space, or you could bring the full sized games if your camper will allow for them.

Camping with kids has its challenges, and you will need to be more diligent over their safety and welfare than most of us are at home. Unfamiliar surroundings and strange sleeping conditions can be an issue for some children, so see if you can’t stage a little mock camping trip in the back yard before going out on the real thing. Use the tent or the camper to teach them what camping is about, and how to pack things neatly. Children love a challenge, and they adore learning new things, so getting them involved on every level, save for the camp fire dealings, will bring them up to speed and get them eager to try it out.

There are a few things that you will want to have an over abundance of when camping with kids, and toiletries are definitely one of them. It is not at all uncommon for children to get the sniffles or to catch a minor cold during a camping outing, so be sure that you have enough tissues and decongestant to take cope of them while you’re away. Extra clothing, especially sweaters, long pants, and tall socks, will come in very handy. Of course, keep their summer clothes at hand, but protection from bugs and the chill of nightfall will be of utmost importance. Kids get filthy when they’re camping, and there will be no laundry room on your trip, so be prepared.

Supervising the fire pit when camping with kids will be a big concern for you, and teaching them fire safety may be the difference between a great trip and a bad one. There are wonderful, long handled sandwich griddles that your kids will love to cook sandwiches and smores with, and this is a great way to introduce them to the benefits and dangers of the campfire. Bring along a volleyball net and a set of horseshoes, some fishing poles and a big smile. Have Fun!
