Camping Ideas: What Will You Need To Enjoy The Outdoors?
As soon as we even consider camping, ideas of blissfully, peacefully watching the grass grow and the leaves sway take us far out of our rat race world. But, as with all good things, patience and planning will make the best of your vacation efforts. There are a great many things that we need to take along with us, and many of our finest camping ideas seem to be left behind as we pack the car and the camper, so you may do well to make a list in advance of your trip. Even those of us who are completely organized can find ourselves 200 miles from home, remembering that our sleeping bags were left freshening up in the dryer. Also, you will want to be sure that your destination is suitable for whatever camping activities you may want to partake in.
If you are an active person, or one with a busy family who can’t find contentment with reading in a hammock, be sure that you try to find a spot near a creek or river, or at least one that has a playground. Many camp sites have both, and your kids will thank you for it. Compact gaming and fishing sets don’t take up a whole lot of room, but they sure do provide endless hours of entertainment when television is out of the question. Volleyball, horseshoes, and magnetic board games can be the ideal pass time for couples, families, and groups of friends. If your wildest camping ideas include hiking or canoeing, there are a great many outfitters who provide both along with transportation and guides for your safety.
Campfires are a big part of most of our camping ideas, and it is important to think about safety first, fun later. Be sure that you keep flame retardant chairs by your fire pit, and keep them at least 6 feet from the flames at all times. Wear flame retardant clothing as well, and then get ready to have some fun. There are tripod cookers that you can purchase rather cheaply, and these are ideal for boiling and pan frying over your campfire. Another of my favorite camping ideas is to purchase the sandwich grillers on sticks, though we call them hobo pie makers. These are great for kids to make grilled ham and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, or even for smores.
Remember that no matter how well we plan everything, our camping ideas are never foolproof, and you will find that the best memories are created from the unexpected. As long as you remember bug spray, a first aid kit, kindling and an emergency fire starting kit, food, and your sense of humor, you will most likely return a victor.
